Student Bar Association (SBA)

All students automatically become members of the Student Bar Association (SBA), the school's overall student government organization. The SBA acts as a liaison between the student body and the administration and faculty, representing students' interests in the Law Center community. In addition, the SBA conducts academic and social programs, allocates funds to student organizations, and collaborates with student bar associations at other law schools.

The SBA is headed by a student-elected executive board and representatives from each class in the full-time and part-time divisions. It plays an active role in governing the school and in establishing school policy, by selecting students to serve as full voting members on virtually all faculty committees. In addition, the SBA president participates in, and has a vote at, all faculty meetings.



American Bar Association/Law Students Division (ABA/LSD)

The ABA/LSD is the on-campus chapter of the American Bar Association. Members participate in national competitions in negotiation, client counseling and appellate advocacy, and represent the school at regional and national meetings.



AMICUS (Lesbian & Gay Law Students Association)

AMICUS sponsors social and educational programs, represents the interests of lesbian and gay members of the Law Center community, participates in public interest legal projects, and is active in regional and national lesbian and gay law student organizations.



American Civil Liberties Union, Touro Chapter (ACLU)

Touro ACLU is the on-campus branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, a national organization dedicated to the preservation of individual rights and personal freedoms under the Bill of Rights and several of the subsequent amendments to the U.S. Constitution.



Arts, Entertainment & Sports Law Society

Through symposia, lectures, career planning seminars and social events, the Arts, Entertainment & Sports Law Society interacts with prominent attorneys and agents in the rapidly expanding sports and entertainment fields.



Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA)

APALSA conducts professional and social programs that emphasize legal and cultural issues of concern to Asian and Pacific Americans, as well as the larger Law Center community.



Black Law Students Association (BLSA)


BLSA is part of the National Black Law Students Association. Its goals are to encourage scholarship and excellence among black law students. The Law Center chapter sponsors many activities and operates a mentoring program.



Christian Legal Society

The Christian Legal Society offers fellowship and spiritual support to law students who identify with the Christian faith.



Criminal Law Society (CLS)

CLS is made up of members who share a passion and interest in criminal law and criminal justice themes. Whether students are interested in prosecution, or defending the accused, CLS provides its members with educational forums where both points of view are represented. The society holds networking social engagements with prosecutors and Legal-Aid defense lawyers.



Emerald Law Society

The Emerald Law Society serves as a focal point for those who share an interest in Irish legal, social or cultural issues.



Environmental Law Society

The Environmental Law Society sponsors programs and events involving environmental awareness and legal issues.



Family Law Society (FLS)


The Family Law Society’s goal is to develop a network with domestic violence agencies and child protection services to facilitate clothing and food drives for victims. FLS would also like to develop networking opportunities for students to participate in internships with local family law firms, and arrange visits to the Supreme and Family Courts to witness first-hand matrimonial/family law trials.



Federalist Society

The Federalist Society is a national organization of lawyers and law students dedicated to conservative and libertarian issues and causes. The Law Center chapter conducts programs and sponsors appearances by distinguished professors and jurists from around the country.



International Law Review

International Law Review is a student-run online journal which focuses on pressing issues of international law with an emphasis on publishing short, timely articles as international legal events unfold.



International Law Society (ILS)

ILS invites speakers, conducts special events, and participates in Touro’s summer abroad programs.



Italian-American Law Students Society

The Italian-American Law Student Society is the student division of a statewide network of attorneys and judges of Italian-American heritage. The group invites prominent guest speakers and gives members the opportunity to meet high-profile practicing attorneys and jurists at monthly meetings.



Jewish Law Students Association (JLSA)

JLSA is the on-campus chapter of the National Jewish Law Students Network. The group’s focus is on Israeli and Jewish law and on Jewish cultural activities. Membership is open to all students, regardless of religious affiliation.



Latino/a American Law Students Association (LALSA)

LALSA focuses primarily on the interests of the Law Center’s Latino/Latina community, through educational and social programs. Members also participate actively in regional and national Hispanic bar associations.



Muslim Law Students Association (MLSA)

The MLSA’s goal is to provide information, both substantive and vocational, to students interested in the law as it’s related to Islam. MLSA sponsors programs and symposiums designed to give the students in attendance ‘access’ to noted attorneys and individuals associated with the practice in these fields. The association has and will continue to sponsor practitioners’ panels on various issues, as well as to invite distinguished individual speakers to offer their commentary on issues of interest to the association membership, and the law center community.



National Lawyers’ Guild

The National Lawyers’ Guild goal is to bring together all those who regard adjustments to new conditions as more important than the veneration of precedent; who recognize the importance of safeguarding and extending the rights of workers, women and minority groups upon whom the welfare of the entire nation depends; who seek actively to eliminate racism; who work to maintain and protect our civil rights and liberties in the face of persistent attacks upon them; and who look upon the law as an instrument for the protection of the people rather than for their repression.



NY Democratic Lawyers Council (NYDLC)

The NYDLC is a project of the New York State Democratic Party and a chapter of the National Democratic Lawyers Council. It includes a group of New York attorneys, law students and others who have a deep commitment to Democratic politics. NYDLC offers volunteer and networking opportunities and plans to host numerous guest speakers.



Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International (PAD)

PAD sponsors professional and social activities for students, faculty and administration, with an emphasis on academic excellence and professional responsibility.



Public Interest Law Organization of Touro (PILOT)

PILOT is dedicated to student awareness of and involvement in public interest law, serving persons or groups with limited access to justice and the judicial system. The group sponsors programs on careers in public-interest law and raises funds to supplement those provided by the school for Public Interest Law Fellowships and the Loan Forgiveness Program.



Real Estate Law Society

The Real Estate Law Society provides an opportunity for students (some of whom are real estate brokers, salespersons, or property managers) to explore legal and business issues related to the purchase, sale, leasing and development of commercial and residential real estate.



Restatement

The Restatement is the Law Center’s official student newspaper. Published during the academic year, it contains news of Law Center events, articles about current legal developments, stories about members of the Law Center community, as well as opinions on topical issues.



South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA)

SALSA serves the needs of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Guyanese students, but is open to all students interested in South Asian culture, issues or legal systems.



Student Disaster Relief Network (SDRN)

SDRN is part of a national association dedicated to providing long-term assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Katrina. SDRN works with law students and administrators from all over the United States to create and coordinate volunteer opportunities for law students in the Gulf Coast.



Touro Alternate Dispute Resolution Society


Touro ADR is the Law Center’s Alternate Dispute Resolution organization. It conducts programs on mediation, conciliation, arbitration and related subjects. Touro ADR also conducts a training program leading to formal certification as a mediator.



Touro Law Basketball Society


Touro Law Basketball Society aims to use basketball to provide networking opportunities with other law schools and big Manhattan firms through participation in Lawyers' Basketball League of NYC. Law Schools compete every Spring semester. Winners of the Law School Division play against champions of the highest-ranked Law Firm Division at Madison Square Garden in mid-April.



Women’s Bar Association (WBA)

WBA is an active voice at the Law Center on gender-related legal issues. It sponsors frequent programs on subjects like women in the courts, sexual harassment, pay equity and other workplace issues, breast cancer and reproductive rights. WBA also offers social and networking opportunities with students, alumni and local practitioners.

This list excludes the following student organizations: Journal of Race, Gender and Ethnicity, Moot Court Board, International Law Review, and Touro Law Review.Upper division students only are invited to join or may qualify for membership based on academic achievement and/or performance in a writing competition.
